About CapeK9Cardio

Why did you start your pet sitting and dog exercise business?

I began running in 2005, for a healthier lifestyle. My running partner was my Jack Russell Terrier, Hunter. He’s run just about everywhere with me during my training runs for the Cape Cod Marathon. On days that Hunter ran, I noticed a marked improvement in his disposition. He became friendlier, more submissive, and overall happier. Granted, he’s still a Jack Russell, but there seemed to be a correlation between the amount of exercise he received and his level of happiness. I conducted research, started the website and visited local dog businesses. Everyone I talked to thought this was a great idea. My wife and I decided to offer a dog running service to other dog owners. Soon after we added dog and cat pet sitting and dog walking to our services.

What makes you different than other similar businesses in your community?

There are a lot of Pet Sitters and Dog Walkers on Cape Cod, and they provide an important service to pet owners. We take the pet sitting business model to the next level by offering the running service too! Everyone loves it. Dogs come hope happy and tired. A typical 30 minute run will burn about as much energy as a 2 1/2 hour walk!

What do you like most about your community?

Cape Cod is such a beautiful area to live. Our client dogs love the outdoors. There is so much to see, sniff and enjoy. We run along the shore, on the Shining Sea Bikeway, through the trails of Beebe Woods and more. We provide services in the towns of Falmouth, Mashpee and Bourne and now cover some of the surrounding areas too. In 2010 we organized a fundraiser for our local community – the K-9 5K. The first year the 5K race raised funds for the Friends of Falmouth Dogs. In 2011 we raised money for the newly constructed Falmouth Dog Park.
